So I've recently been living a double life, it's only been going on for about a week now but I can tell it's going to either be a great adventure or could end horribly, and I have a feeling the choice is in my hands. I recently got a job as a waiter at a Korean restaurant. I decided to take on a second job for a couple reason; mostly because my current job sucks terribly to put it lightly, secondly because I would like to get involved in the food industry and waiting tables is a start, lastly to just have some fun, make new friends, make some cash and stay away from drinking too many four lokos.
So I'll basically introduce you to my day. I wake up at 8 am for my morning job, still feeling a little tipsy from the bottle of red wine that I drank the night before and somehow proceed to work at my "day job" from 9-5. This always seems to be a struggle just getting out of bed for the simple fact that I don't like my current "day job." It also doesn't help that I was out at a party till 2 am the night before. So 6 hours of drunken sleep later, I start my 16 hour day. I actually look forward to going to my second job as a waiter, the people are super fun, I get to walk around and interact with people all day, then drink and eat for free when my shift ends. My shift typically starts at 5:30 pm and can end as early as 10 pm or as late as 1 am. This can lead to being taxing on my body and I've only been doing this for a week now. The other night I didn't get home till 4 am, aka only four hours of drunken sleep.
I have a feeling that something in my lifestyle will need to settle down in order for this situation to work out well for all parties involved. Although I'm not really sure how to approach the situation, hopefully at the end of 4 months of doing this I'll have realized that this is or isn't what I want to do with my life. On one side the comfort of having a standard salary, full benefits, 401 K and all that jazz makes sense and it's great to have a steady 9-5 job. On the other hand having to deal with some of the people I work with drives me crazy. I'm also not a fan of the structured schedule here, it doesn't feel natural to me. I also feel weighted down here, the vibe in my building is quite depressing and overbearing. Working in a restaurant has been a great experience so far, and I say so far because like everything new at first it's great and then it becomes not so great. So I'm excited to see how working in a restaurant pans out.
Future steps in my double life will be trying to learn as much I can at the restaurant, minimizing my lifestyle, find my life mission, refocusing on family and friends, and having as much fun as possible.
